Data Analysis Protocol

The Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) model is an effective protocol for grade level/ department teams to use data to validate instructional strategies. Through an action research approach, educators will develop instructional and measurable plans to solve student achievement problems. The Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycle is an instructional protocol for testing an instructional strategy by planning it, trying it, observing the consequences, and then acting on what is learned from those results.

What Educators are saying:
  • Our teachers were validated by the students of the instructional strategies we been implementing for two years.
PLAN, DO, STUDY, ACT CYCLE
Step 1 Plan a strategic change
  • State the objective of the plan: What will the team do?
  • Make predictions about what will happen and why.
  • Develop a plan to test the change (Who will do it? What? When? Where? How? What data must be collected?)
Step 2 Do the strategy
  • Document problems and unexpected observations.
  • Collect and assess data.
Step 3 Study the strategy
  • Analyze the data.
  • Compare the data to the team’s predictions.
  • Summarize what the team has learned.
Step 4 Act upon or revise the strategy
  • Modify plans as needed, including the action, or approach.
  • Prepare the next plan.
